Borehole cleaning is one of the key issues affecting the drilling safety and efficiency of extended reach wells, and it is directly affected by the accumulated cuttings in borehole. The borehole cleaning tools are usually used to clear the cuttings, which the traditional tools such as Straight impeller tool, use impeller to induce vortex for borehole cleaning. Due to the limited working conditions of traditional tools, the effect of sliding drilling on borehole cleaning is poor. While the new V-shaped impeller cuttings carrying tool can prevent cuttings deposition through its hydraulic and mechanical effect, then reduce the friction of drillpipe and prevent downhole accidents. The synergistic effect of hydraulic and mechanical scraping borehole cleaning with V-shaped impeller cuttings carrying tool is unclear. In this study, a V-shaped impeller cuttings carrying tool was used here to study the effects of different parameters (e.g. annulus flow rate, drillpipe rotation speed, drillpipe eccentricity and hole inclination) on borehole cleaning. By measuring the cross-sectional area of the wetted perimeters of the cuttings bed and the distance between the cuttings bed and the tool, the prediction rule of the borehole cleaning effect under the action of multiple parameters is obtained. This study could provide a guidance for borehole cleaning operations in oil-field.
