Abstract
With the high integration of electronic devices and increase electric power application on vehicles, battery performance and safety has attracted great attention. As battery performances are usually associated with ambient temperature, pressure and dynamic mechanical loads, packaging materials possess excellent mechanical properties and thermal dissipation are deeply needed to promise high performance and stability of batteries. Furthermore, considering batteries contain electrolyte and has high sensitivity to the concentration, good corrosion resistance, impermeability and insulating properties are also very important for practical application of battery packaging. These multiple function demands of high performance battery package leave a great challenge for the current packaging materials which made of metal and alloy based materials. Such severe demands of battery packaging materials require the selected new packaging materials should integrate thermal, mechanical, barrier and insulation properties together to overcome issues exist on the practical application. Two-dimensional (2D) materials such as boron nitride (BN), graphite (G), molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with extraordinary intrinsic properties on mechanical and thermal dissipation aspects, also with satisfying insulating and desired barrier behavior for liquid and gas, has became a promising component for battery protection. In this context, 2D materials are adopted to provide thermal conductive and barrier properties, combined with polymer to improve the mechanical properties. The new polymer-based 2D materials can be tuned to balance the issues mentioned above through components and structural design, hoping to prepare a multifunctional packaging materials which could meet with the multiple requirements for battery packaging.
