Abstract
When subjected to the action of a liquid, the motion behavior of wet particles differs greatly from that of dry ones. To investigate the influence of fluid on particle dynamics, a wet particle model combining the discrete element method (DEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was established. The simulation results were found to be in good agreement with the available experimental data. Moreover, the fluidization characteristics of wet particles was examined and effects of different liquid contents and gas velocities were explored. Results show that the surface tension and viscosity of the liquid significantly affect particle motion in the bed. Increasing the surface tension enhances both the liquid bridge force and inter-particle contact force. Enhancing the viscosity strengthens the liquid bridge force but weakens the contact force.
